GitHub #43 Idea

Since you guys touch basicaly everything inside luma, perhaps file system layout can be improved. Most linux distros use standard filesystem hierarchy, you can do more while luma is in alpha and make your own filesystem hierarchy unique to luma. To be clear you can do as you wish with file system layout for where you want what to be installed or placed so wether you want to give it ago or not it's up to you. Check out gobolinux to see what i meant in practice.
What do you propose specifically?
I have been thinking about this, in regards to Luma cross device sync. My ideal experience would be a desktop at home, laptop on my work desk, tablet in my bag -- with PERFECT sync between them. Install an app at home, it is already installed (configured, logged in, etc) on my tablet...etc. This falls in to the same category, I think.
Here is what i propose. Normaly on any distro you'll find apps installed in
/bin/usr which due to usrmerge is symlink linking both /usr/bin and
/usr/sbin. Idea is for you to try and design your own file system layout.
For example instead of /usr/bin and /usr/sbin you could have
/applications/system for binaries system requires and
/applications/terminal and applications/appstore for apps. Point here is
file system hierarchy you know one with /usr/bin or /usr/sbin is not
absolute in linux and that's just virtual file system and best part about
is that you can make it however you wish. Now type of filesystem like
ext4,btrfs,zfs and xfs that's somethimg you shouldn't tamper with. Word of
advice. If you want to offer zfs support too do not put it inside kernel
tree at all, ship at as dkms if you don't want to void cddl licence.

To add to my previous answer i understand what you are trying to do so for
that you'll need to look up huawei's harmony os and if it can do what you
are after you might find answer there.
